1. Sterling Recreation Center
A place to stay cool and have fun! The outdoor pool includes a wading pool, several water features, and four slides. The indoor pool is open year round and it includes basketball hoops, canoes and kayaks, and a diving board. Dive on in!
This spacious reservoir on the high plains is a gateway to fun and relaxation! Swim beach, boat rentals, and plenty of nooks and crannies to fish or dip your feet in the water. Bring a picnic and spend the day here.

1. North Sterling State Park
North Sterling is a boater’s and fisherman’s paradise offering a 3,000-acre lake with a fascinating array of flats and coves to explore. An additional 2,800 acres of land support a wide variety of recreational activities, including bird-watching, wildlife viewing, hiking and more. 2. Prewitt State Wildlife Area
Prewitt is leased by Colorado Parks and Wildlife from the Morgan-Prewitt Irrigation Company with 3,047 acres which are managed primarily for fishing and hunting. Check it out here.
3. Jumbo State Wildlife Area
Jumbo Reservoir is a 1,578-acre body of water located on the Jumbo State Wildlife Area. Anglers can expect excellent fishing for walleye and crappie, and quality fishing for channel catfish and bluegill. Find more details here.
1. Birds, Blossoms and Butterflies
Celebrate spring at the Sterling Creatives’ First Friday Open House on May 3, from 11:30 am–6 pm. There will be plenty of spring-themed artwork available in the gallery and you will be able to meet with May’s featured artist of the month, Denise Sunderman, the brilliant mind behind Fruit Jar Studio and maker of many items that can be found in the gallery, like jewelry, birdfeeders, and hand-dyed silk scarves. 2. Jazz it Up
Take a quick break down the street in Historical Downtown Sterling for First Friday @ First Presbyterian featuring the Sterling High School Jazz Band on May 3, from 12:05-12:35 pm. This monthly musical treat takes place in the 1918 First Presbyterian Church with its unaltered exterior and original stained glass windows. Learn more about it here.
3. Free for Kids!
You will want to enjoy Family Fun Saturday at the Overland Trail Museum, May 4, from 9 am-5 pm. Kids are admitted free of charge all day! Come and experience “A Child’s Life on the Prairie” and learn about farm chores, gathering eggs and washing clothes in a wash tub. 1. ART in the SQUARE
Join the celebration of art in the community at the Logan County Courthouse Square in downtown Sterling on Saturday, April 27, from 11 am – 5 pm. There will be a sidewalk chalk competition for Logan County high schools, a Plein Air competition, art demonstrations, vendor booths, children’s art instruction, music and more!

Are you shopping for Mother’s Day? Graduation? A wedding? Or just for yourself? Check out the Spring Holiday Marketplace while you’re downtown Saturday.
